Harlan Independent students participate in KY-ACDA

The 2017 KY-ACDA All-State Choir was held in Lexington. Harlan Independent students Ethan Farley, Ava Nunez and Peyton Wilson participated in the Children’s Chorus.
The guest conductor was Ruth Dwyer, who is internationally recognized as a treble and childrens choir specialist and Kodaly educator. Dwyer has been a conductor and director of education with the Indianapolis Children’s Choir for 29 years. She is celebrating her 22nd year as the artistic director of the Columbus Indiana Chidren’s Choir, a co-oerative effort of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Indianapolis Children’s Choir.
Campbell Nunez and Makaila Riddle participated in the Jr. High SSAA All-State Chorus. The guest conductor was Dr. Lesley Mann. She is an assistant professor of choral music education at Belmont University. She is the conductor of the women’s chorus. As a performer, she sang at Walt Disney World with the Voices of Liberty and swam with Finding Nemo, the Musical! She is an active conductor, clinician and adjudicator.
