Pair arrested on drug charges following investigation

On Tuesday, the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant at a residence located at 889 Ivy Hill in Harlan. The search warrant was a result of a lengthy investigation conducted by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival at the location, individuals were observed inside the residence and refused to come to the door. After announcing several times, deputies forced entry into the residence and upon execution of the search warrant located a large amount of methamphetamine with a street value of over $40,000. Several Hydrocodone pills were also located inside the residence. Deputies also seized $18,620 cash and four handguns from the residence.
Clarence Major III, 34, of Harlan was arrested and charged with first-degree trafficking in controlled substance (greater than 2 grams of methamphetamine), first-degree trafficking in controlled substance (Schedule 1 and 2 controlled substance) and possession of handgun by convicted felon.
Chastan Bennett, 32, of Harlan was arrested and charged with first-degree trafficking in controlled substance (greater than 2 grams of methamphetamine).
All subjects were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center. The investigation is continuing by Harlan County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detectives. The sheriff’s oOffice was assisted at the scene by members of Applachia Narcotics Investigations.
