Bridge dedicated in honor of Curry

A bridge on U.S. Hwy. 119 near the Totz exit was named in honor of Sgt. James M. Curry, who was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Republic of South Vietnam. He fought in numerous campaigns, and, on one occasion, received a shrapnel wound caused by an enemy M-79 to his upper left arm and hand. Curry received the following decorations: Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60/device, Purple Heart, Three Overseas Service Bars. Curry’s Marine Corps tours consisted of 18 months. During his tour. Curry fought in 10 separate campaigns. Sgt. Curry has also served many years as a VFW Post Commander and has been named Commander of the Year twice. He also served as the Kentucky State Commander. Here, Sgt. Curry is pictured with the Harlan Honor Guard.
