Two games into her first season as coach of the Harlan softball team, Alex Pennington and her Lady Dragons are 2-0 and headed to the finals of the 13th Region All “A” Classic.

Harlan opened the season Monday with a 5-0 win over visiting Oneida Baptist and followed it with a 7-2 victory Tuesday at Barbourville.

“I am very proud of how this team came together,” Pennington said. “I am very pleased with how our hitting was tonight. All around these girls are impressive. They are a very fun group to watch.”

Payton Bennett paced the Harlan offense against Barbourville with a double and single. Makayla Sizemore had two singles. Haven Saylor, Angel Wynn, Kaitlyn Cornett and Kailey Cornett added one single each.

Bennett claimed her second win of the season on the mound as she pitched a seven-hitter with six strikeouts and three walks

Whitney Brock led Barbourville with a homer and single. Ally Daniels and Grace Jones added a double and single. Megan Poff contributed one single.

Saylor had two singles and two RBI in the win over Oneida Baptist. Bennett added an RBI single.

Bennett struck out seven and walked none as she pitched a complete game.
