Akal scores 33 as Dragons earn split at Barbourville

BARBOURVILLE — Harlan split a pair of scrimmages Tuesday in the Barbourville Team Camp, falling 79-60 to Barbourville before defeating Jackson County 65-46.
Sophomore guard Jordan Akal hit 10 3-pointers and scored 33 points in the win over Jackson County as the Dragons grabbed an early lead and pulled away later with the help of 15 3-pointers as a team. Jon Eldridge added 12 points. Charles David Morton chipped in with six points. Johann Gist and Jaedyn Gist scored five each. Kaleb McLendon added four.
Akal scored 18 and Jaedyn Gist added 16 in the Barbourville game. Morton and McLendon each scored nine. Johann Gist chipped in with five. Eldridge scored three.
Harlan will play Lynn Camp at noon and Red Bird at 1 on Wednesday at Barbourville.
