LEXINGTON — A 41-point outburst by senior guard Taylor Spurlock was not enough in Harlan County’s opening game Friday in the KBC state tournament in Lexington as the Black Bears fell 79-70 to Sevier County, Tenn.

Spurlock found more offensive support in the second game as four Bears reached double figures in a 65-49 victory over Southwestern. Spurlock scored 23 against the Warriors, while Jacob Wilson added 13 and Trent Noah and Tyler Cole added 10 each. Jackson Huff and Josh Turner chipped in with five and four points, respectively.

Cole and Noah helped the Bears grab an early 14-4 lead with seven points each. Spurlock heated up later in the quarter as HCHS built a 33-20 halftime advantage.
