Tri-City earns trip to district with comeback win

HAZARD — A 10-run first inning put the Harlan All-Stars in control early in the Area 4 (ages 9-10) Tournament on Sunday afternoon at the Perry County Park.
A 12-run sixth inning brought the Tri-City All-Stars back and sent them to a 24-15 victory. Tri-City advances to District 4 competition with the win, which placed them second in Area 4 behind Hazard/Perry County.
Zayden Casolari and Gavvin Lloyd were the stars for Tri-City. Casolari pitched the final four innings to earn the win, giving up three runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and four walks. Lloyd drove in five runs to lead the offense with a triple and two singles.
Jackson Deal added two singles for Tri-City. Elijah Creech, Kyllian Jackson and Colby Clay had one single each.
Carson Clark started on the mound but had trouble with control as he walked eight and struck out one in giving up 10 runs in two-thirds of an inning. Deal gave up two runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings, with two strikeouts and no walks.
Luke Luttrell led Harlan with a double and single along with an outstanding defensive game at first base. Brayden Morris and Ethan Stewart added two singles each. Brody Brock and Cayden Jackson contributed one single each.
Brock gave up five runs on two hits in two innings with three strikeouts and one walk to start the game. Morris gave up three runs on three walks in the third inning. Stewart allowed nine runs on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks in 3 1/3 innings. Rydge Lewis and Bryson Kelly recorded one out each in the sixth inning with Lewis walking three and Kelly walking one. Grant Shelton hit both batters he faced as he pitched between Lewis and Kelly.
Harlan had a 14-12 lead going into the sixth when Jackson, Clay and Deal opened the inning with singles to load the bases. Kolby Watts grounded into a fielder’s choice before Lloyd came up with the biggest hit of the game as he cleared the bases with his triple to left-center. Lloyd added a two-run single later in the inning.

Hazard/Perry continued its domination of the tournament with 19-0 win over Tri-City on Friday and a 10-0 victory over Harlan on Saturday to win the Area 4 title.
Isaiah Johnson pitched a no-hitter against Harlan with 11 strikeouts and three walks in the four-inning game.
Luke Luttrell pitched 4 1/3 innings for Harlan and gave up seven hits with two strikeouts and seven walks. Jesse Gilbert gave up two hits and walked three. Braydon Morris gave up one hit to finish the game.
Johnson, Conner Perkins, Blake Lovins and Corbin Wooton pitched one inning each in the win over Tri-City.
Hazard and Tri-City advance to the District 4 Tournament, which opens July 5 at the Perry County Park.
