Spurlock receives college offer

Harlan County guard Taylor Spurlock received a scholarship offer to Malone University during a recent trip to the campus in Canton, Ohio.

Spurlock, a 6-6 senior, averaged 11.1 points and five rebounds per game last season for the 19-8 Black Bears. He averaged 6.0 points and 2.6 rebounds per game as a sophomore when HCHS won its fourth straight 52nd District Tournament title. Spurlock was a reserve on the 2017 squad that won the 13th Region title and made the program’s first trip to the Sweet Sixteen.

Malone is a Division II school in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The league includes 13 teams, including Kentucky Wesleyan.

Spurlock had an impressive summer with the Bears as he led them to an 18-6 mark, capped by a tournament championship at the Kentucky Basketball Commission. Spurlock scored 15 points in the championship game win over Mason County. He had several big games in Lexington, including 32 points against Louisville Male and 41 against Sevier County, Tenn.
