Brown, Brewer lead Patriots past Evarts

Jace Brown and Jake Brewer teamed for three touchdowns and 134 yards on the ground as the New Harlan fifth- and sixth-grade team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 26-0 victory Thursday over visiting Evarts.
Brown ran for 74 yards on five carries and added 96 receiving yards and 13 passing yards. Brewer had five carries for 60 yards with 96 passing yards and 13 receiving yards. Gunner Burkhart added seven yards on one carry with a touchdown and two-point conversion. Brody Hensley gained 18 yards on three carries.
Brown opened the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Brown teamed with Brewer for a 13-yard touchdown pass for a 12-0 lead after one period.
A 20-yard touchdown run by Brown pushed the Patriots’ lead to 18-0 at halftime.
Burkhart ran 7 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter, then added the two-point conversion
Brown led the New Harlan defense with six tackles. Wyatt Hensley, Raeden Tindell, Brayden Morris and Brewer aded four each.
The Patriots return to action Thursday at Bell County.

Cumberland dropped a doubleheader Thursday at Letcher Central, falling 32-0 in fifth- and sixth-grade action and 44-0 in the seventh- and eighth-grade game. The Redskins will play host to Perry Central on Thursday.
