HCHS soccer teams claim victories

Harlan County’s Isaac Taulbee battled for possession of the ball in recent soccer action. The Black Bears claimed a 1-0 win over Knox Central on Saturday and defeated Red Bird 2-1 on Monday.

The Harlan County boys soccer team made history on Saturday with a 1-0 double-overtime win Saturday over Knox Central, reportedly the first in school history.

Johnny Brock scored the winning goal for the 1-5-1 Bears. Nick Shackleford had 11 saves in a shutout performance.

Harlan County defeated Red Bird 2-1 on Monday. Hunter Mefford and James Chasteen scored goals for the Bears.

The Harlan County girls won 4-0 over Oneida Baptist, led by two goals from Hayley Key.

Key’s first goal came on an assist from Abby Gaw. She then scored an unassisted goal. Hailey Gaw had a goal on an assist from Sarah Sturgill. Angel Thomas scored the fourth goal on an assist from Natalee Bolin.

Harlan County extended its win streak to two with a 1-0 victory Saturday at home against Knox Central in a penalty kick shootout. Hailey Gaw scored the goal on an assist from Natalie Bolin. Mekenzie Crider had seven saves in her second shutout of the season.

The 2-4 Lady Bears will play host to Knox Central on Tuesday.
