Lady Dragons split matches; HCHS falls to Bell

Harlan claimed a three-set win over Pineville (26-24, 25-16, 25-18) and suffered a three-set loss to Letcher Central (25-11, 25-7, 25-10) in volleyball action last week.
Madelyn Haynes, Natalee King, Hannah Jones and Haven Saylor led the Lady Dragons against PIneville with four service aces each. Saylor added 12 digs. Jones had four digs and four kills. Haynes added four digs and one block. King had four digs, three blocks and three kills. Emma Fisher had two aces and five digs. Lauren Nunez added two aces and two digs. Kailey Cornett had three kills. Emma Owens added one dig.
Saylor led Harlan against HCHS with one ace, 15 digs and one kill. King had five kills, two blocks and one dig. Fisher had eight digs. Haynes had five digs and one block. Jones added four digs, three blocks and one kill. Nunez had three digs.
The Lady Dragons played three matches over the weekend in the Rocky Top Classic in Sevierville, Tenn. No scores were available at press time.
Harlan (6-5) will be at home against Harlan County on Tuesday.

Harlan County suffered a five-set loss to Bell County, falling 25-15, 14-25, 16-25, 28-26, 15-12.
Lindsey Brown had five service aces, 29 digs, 14 assists and seven kills to lead the Lady Bears. Brenna Early had five aces, 29 digs and nine assists. Dixie Ewing had two aces, 24 digs, 12 assists and 20 kills. Serenity Whitehead added two aces, 23 digs, 13 assists and eight kills. Olivia Minor added two aces, 18 digs and 75 assists. Paighton Freeman had six digs, 26 assists and two kills. Lily Caballero added eight digs and two assists.
HCHS fell 25-11, 25-18, 25-14 to visiting Cumberland Homeschool on Monday.
Whitehead led the Lady Bears with 42 digs, two aces, two assists, four blocks and two kills. Minor had 44 assists, 12 digs, one ace and two kills. Freeman added 16 assists, 10 digs and five kills. Early added 18 digs, six assists, six blocks and one kill. Ewing had 20 digs, three assists and four kills. Carlee Stevens contributed five digs, three assists, three blocks and two kills. Brown had four assists, two digs, four kills and one block.
The 1-7 Lady Bears will travel to Harlan on Tuesday.
