Lady Dragons sweep HCHS, stay unbeaten in district play

Harlan improved to 4-0 in district competition and moved a step closer to clinching the top seed in next months’ 52nd District Tournament with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-14 win Tuesday over visiting Harlan County.
Haven Saylor led the Lady Dragons with nine aces, 12 digs and two assists. Madelyn Haynes contributed four digs, one ace, two blocks and five kills. Emma Fisher had four aces and two digs. Lauren Nunez added three aces and one dig. Natalee King contributed four digs, six kills and two blocks. Hannah Jones added two digs and two kills. Emma Owens added two digs. Kailey Cornett had one block and one kill.
Olivia Minor led HCHS with 31 assists, four aces and one kill. Brenna Early had 17 digs and two aces. Dixie Ewing added 18 digs, one ace, five assists and four kills. Paighton Freeman added 14 digs, two aces, 11 assists and 13 kills. Lily Caballero had 10 digs and six assists. Serenity Whitehead added 12 digs, two assists, two blocks and 13 kills. Lindsey Browning contributed six digs, two aces, five assists, one block and four kills. Carlee Stevens had two aces, one dig, one assist and three kills.
Harlan County (1-8) will travel to Middlesboro on Thursday. Harlan (7-6) will travel to Bell County on Monday.

The Lady Bears won 13-21, 21-11, 21-13 in junior varsity action.
Lilly Caballero reeled off nine straight service points in the second set. Gracie Ewing added five straight service points.
