Local shoppers are taking advantage of a closing-store sale going on now until the end of February at Goody’s in Harlan. Beginning March 3, Gordmans will take over the store to offer customers their favorite brands at prices lower than average department stores.
Gordmans, which has been operating for more than 100 years, is part of the Stage community of stores – a company seeking to convert its Goody’s, Peebles, Stage and other department store nameplates to Gordmans at the start of March. Now the apparel and home décor retailer is seeking to hire at 25 new store locations throughout Kentucky.
“The unofficial, last day of Goody’s will be Feb. 22,” said store manager Jason Farmer. “Then, we’ll have a grand opening as Gordmans on March 3.”
Farmer said store prices will be more “off-brand,” meaning they will be relatively cheaper to regular department store prices.
“As far as I know, prices should be a lot cheaper and we will have more home merchandise. The same great brands you have now just cheaper prices,” he said.
Farmer added he is hoping to see “really good” competition after the store reopens as Gordmans and “we look to expand in the near future.”
Gordmans will host a job fair from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Jan. 9 in counties throughout the region, including Bardstown, Beaver Dam, Central City, Danville, Glasgow, Harlan, Hazard, Henderson, Hopkinsville, Leitchfield, London, Louisa, Madisonville, Mayfield, Maysville, Morehead, Mount Sterling, Paintsville, Paris, Princeton, Russelville, Shelbyville, Somerset, South Williamson and Winchester.
Interested candidates are asked to first apply online at www.Gordmans.com/careers and then visit the job fair close to them.
Full-time Gordmans associates are offered benefits, including health insurance (medical, prescription drug, dental and vision), a 401(k) savings plan, paid vacation and holidays and a 20 percent associate discount on merchandise. Gordmans offers flexible full-time and part-time schedules.
