Fast start propels Lady Cougars to win over Harlan

Letcher Central built a 27-10 lead after one quarter on Friday against visiting Harlan and coasted to a 75-44 victory over the Lady Dragons.

Sophomore guard Kaylee Banks scored 12 of her 19 points in the opening quarter as Letcher took control early. Harlan cut the deficit to 40-26 by halftime as Natalee King scored seven of her team-high 22 points.

The Lady Cougars outscored Harlan 18-9 in the third quarter, led by seven points from Banks. Letcher won 17-9 in the fourth quarter as Brooklyn Collins had two baskets.

Collins scored 13 and Brooke Bates added 12 for the 10-5 Lady Cougars.

Emma Owens added nine points for the 7-5 Lady Dragons, who return to action Tuesday against Middlesboro in the first round of the 13th Region All “A” Classic at Pineville.
