Kaleb McLendon and Jordan Akal combined to hit seven 3-pointers in the first quarter as Harlan raced to a 25-13 lead after one quarter on Thursday at Letcher Central. The Dragons had to hold on from there for a 68-66 victory.

Akal scored 22 to lead the 8-7 Dragons. Jon Eldridge and McLendon added 18 and 15 points, respectively.

Parker Williams scored 20 for the 3-11 Cougars. Dylan Webb tossed in 15. Ryan Lebron added 12.

Williams and Lebron each scored nine points in the fourth quarter as Letcher outscored Harlan 24-16 to cut the final deficit to two.

Harlan returns to action Saturday in a district game at Harlan County.
