Green Dragons hit 25 3-pointers in a victory over Cats

The Harlan Green Dragons celebrated a Senior Night for the record books on Friday in a 98-77 victory over visiting Lynn Camp. The Green Dragons hit 25 3-pointers to set a 13th Region record, according to Kentucky High School Athletic Association statistics, and ranked third all-time in state history.
Senior guard Charles David Morton hit 10 3-pointers in a 30-point performance. Sophomore guard Jordan Akal led the Dragons with 32 points as he added nine 3-pointers. Kaleb McLendon hit five 3-pointers as he scored 15. Jon Eldridge added 13 points with one 3-pointer.
Max Burd led Lynn Camp with 34 points. Jace Boggs scored 23. Matt Disney chipped in with 10 points.
“Shots were falling tonight and it was good to see my seniors go out on a winning note,” Harlan coach Derrick Akal said. “I’m happy for Charles. He has been the ultimate team guy and he deserved to have a night like tonight.”
The 12-13 Dragons play at Leslie County on Saturday.

Senior forward Natalee King poured in 27 points, including 11 of 15 from the free throw line, as the Harlan Lady Dragons rolled to a 73-34 win.
The Lady Dragons also got 11 points off the bench from Emma Owens and 10 points from eighth-grade guard Ella Karst. Angel Wynn and Faith Hoskins scored nine and eight points, respectively.
Seventh-grade guard Abbi Boggs led Lynn Camp with nine points.
The Lady Cats were 10 of 39 from the field, but did outrebound Harlan 32-25.
Harlan scored the first 21 points of the game and never looked back. The Lady Cats missed 10 of 12 shots in the first quarter and trailed 23-7. King scored 11 points in the period.
The Lady Dragons used a 13-0 to open the second quarter as King scored seven. Harlan took a 47-18 advantage into the break.
Harlan extended the lead to 65-26 after three quarters. Again, King led the way with seven.
Both teams scored eight points in the final quarter.
Harlan (11-14) returns to action on Monday at 6 p.m. for a varsity game only against Leslie County at Hyden.
Lynn Camp (3-23) plays host to Clinton County on Saturday and entertains Williamsburg on Tuesday.
