A man from Lynch was arrested Monday evening after he allegedly broke into KCEOC in Verda earlier that morning.

John Macky, 29, was arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Office deputies on March 16.

According to a sheriff office press release, deputies responded to a complaint at Verda KCEOC early Monday morning. Later that afternoon, a deputy was able to locate Macky in Verda when he began to flee.

With the help of Harlan and Evarts police officers, Macky was apprehended shortly after and methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were allegedly found on him.

Macky is charged with first-degree burglary, menacing, second-degree fleeing/evading police (on foot), tampering with physical evidence, theft by unlawful taking (between $10,000 and $1,000,000), possession of drug paraphernalia, first-degree possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine) and second-degree criminal mischief.

An additional warrant for his arrest was also obtained by Evarts Police Department officers for a burglary at Dollar General located in the city of Evarts, along with a bench warrant for failure to appear in Harlan District Court. The Kentucky State Police issued another warrant on Wednesday as a result of a burglary investigation at Save-A-Lot, also located in Evarts.

Macky is lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center with a $30,000 full-cash bond. The KCEOC burglary remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and additional arrests are pending.

In other police activity:

• James Hurst, 53, of Pathfork, was arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Office deputies on March 13. He was charged with theft by unlawful taking (controlled substance under $10,000). He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $1,000 unsecured bond;

• Cody Mundy, 20, of Lexington, was arrested by Kentucky State Police troopers on March 14. He was charged with receiving stolen property (under $10,000) and third-degree criminal mischief. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond, 10 percent with bail credit;

• Michael Holbrook, 30, of Harlan, was arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Office deputies on March 14. He was charged with first-degree criminal trespassing, second-degree fleeing/evading police (on foot), resisting arrest, second-degree disorderly conduct, menacing, first-degree possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine), tampering with physical evidence, public intoxication of controlled substance (excluding alcohol) and contempt of court. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $7,000 bond, 10 percent with bail credit;

• Gregory Riddle, 32, of Evarts, was arrested by Evarts Police Department officers on March 15. He was charged with first- and third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal trespassing, third-degree criminal mischief and contempt of court. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond, 10 percent with bail credit;

• Joshua Maggard, 41, of Dayhoit, was arrested by Kentucky State Police troopers on March 15. He was charged with first-degree possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication of controlled substance (excluding alcohol). He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on two full-cash bonds totaling $6,000.
