HC takes second in junior varsity tourney

LEXINGTON — Harlan County placed second in the junior varsity gold division in the Mack, Miller and Lofton Tournament at the Kentucky Basketball Commission over the weekend.

The Black Bears fell 56-40 to Breathitt County in the finals as the Bobcats pulled away late after baskets by freshmen Tristan Cooper and Jonah Swanner helped HCHS get within four.

Jaylen Turner scored 18 and Andrew Combs added 16 to lead Breahitt County.

James Gray led HCHS with 14 points. Josh Sergent scored nine. Cooper added seven. Swanner scored four. Daniel Carmical, Jeremiah Clem and Cameron Lester added two each.

Harlan County routed Martin County 46-26 in the semifinals as Gray scored 15 and Cooper added nine to lead the Bears. Swanner and Carmical scored six each. Sergent, Lester, Cadyn Duncan, Dylan Hicks and Bradley Halcomb added two each.
