A “Coal Run” planned by members of multiple Harlan County High School athletic teams took place Monday at the HCHS campus. The run was organized to raise money for miners affected by the Blackjewel bankruptcy filing that occurred earlier this month, which resulted in a ripple effect of bounced checks and terminated insurances. “We had a great turnout and it was a great atmosphere,” said HCHS teacher and football coach Eddie Creech. “We were able to raise over $4,000 to give back to our coal mining families in Harlan County. Thanks to everyone who donated money and time, all the runners, all the helpers, all the teams/coaches and all the folks who made this thing possible. Big thanks to coach Ryan Vitatoe for allowing us to use his course and having it set up for all the runners.”
