Harlan County Judge-Executive Dan Mosley and Harlan County Deputy Judge-Executive Brandon Robinson were the summer series guest speakers during the Harlan County Chamber of Commerce meeting on Wednesday. Mosley spoke briefly of 9/11, since the meeting fell on the day’s 18th anniversary, and officially introduced Robinson to the members.
“Today being 9/11, we all remember this day in history,” Mosley said. “We all remember exactly what we did the rest of the day after seeing that second plane come across the T.V. screen. You realized then it wasn’t just an accident.
“We realize, as a family, how our society as a whole is different. It’s very fitting to recognize our first responders today to just say thank you.”
Mosley told the chamber the Harlan County Courthouse was hosting an event later in the day to recognize and honor the first responders by having musicians play at the gazebo in downtown, with donations and prizes for them. Taco Holler was also available to serve food.
“Just be mindful of today and of our freedoms,” Mosley said. “These people are there to protect us so we can be here today.”
Mosley went on to introduce Robinson to the chamber, telling them he is the person replacing Colby Goss as deputy judge-executive.
“Colby Goss had an amazing opportunity come up,” Mosley said. “He was really my right hand and one of my best friends.”
Mosley said he hated to see Goss leave, but “I told him if he doesn’t do it now, he might regret not going.”
“I thought a lot of the person that would best fit the position and Brandon was the one that came to mind,” Mosley said.
Robinson said he was both shocked and “floored” when Mosley called and offered him the position, adding he was excited to be coming back to Harlan.
“I appreciate the faith in me,” Robinson said. “If it wasn’t for Dan, I wouldn’t have been back here, but I trust him.”
Mosley took the floor again to continue updating the chamber on certain bicentennial events and economic development work going on around the county.
