Lady Bears take 7-game win streak into tourney

Harlan County will play host to the 50th District Tournament this week at the James A. Cawood field.
In the girls tourney, Knox Central will play Middlesboro on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Harlan County will take on the winner on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the district finals.
The boys district tournament will begin on Tuesday with Middlesboro playing Barbourville at 5:30 and Knox Central taking on Harlan County at 7:30. The championship game is set for 5:30 on Thursday.

The Lady Bears extended their win streak to seven with an 8-1 win Monday at home against J. Frank White Academy, Tenn., and a 1-0 win Tuesday at home against Middlesboro.
Hailey Gaw had a goal and two assists to lead the Lady Bears against J. Frank White. Hannah Pittman and Emily Fultz each added one goal and one assist. Elina Turner, Gracen Anderson, Sarah Sturgill, Natalie Bolin and Angel Thomas had one goal each. Kali Blevins and Maria Ball added one assist each.
HCHS (7-4) won in penalty kicks against the Lady Jackets as Gaw and Kali Blevins made their kicks.
The Black Bears closed the regular season with a 4-8-1 record, falling 4-0 at Middlesboro on Tuesday in the regular season finale.
