Trojanettes edge Evarts in overtime
You may want to get a seat early if you plan on attending this year’s seventh- and eighth-grade county tournament, especially if James A. Cawood and Evarts make it to the finals as expected.
The county’s top two teams played a thriller Tuesday at James A. Cawood as the Trojanettes won 49-48 in overtime. Evarts rallied from 15 points down to take a lead late in regulation. Evarts led by three in the final minute of overtime before JACES rallied.
Seventh-grade guard Kylie Jones scored 22 points to lead the Trojanettes.
Ashley Preston, also a standout seventh-grade guard, led Evarts with 19 points.
Evarts won 28-23 in fifth- and sixth-grade action as Tori Robinson led the Lady Cats with 12 points.
Jaiden Marlow led the Trojanettes with 10 points.

Cheyanne Rhymer poured in 32 points and Maddi Middleton added 12 as Cawood won 46-26 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.
Hallie Hensley led the Lady Devils with nine points.

Cottrell leads Black Mountain to win
Led by 14 points from Chelsey Cottrell, visiting Black Mountain edged Cumberland 29-27 on Tuesday in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.
Destiny Cornett led the Lady Skins with eight points.
Akira Lee scored 18 as Cumberland won 22-17 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.
Addison Campbell led Black Mountain with seven points.
Black Mountain defeated Green Hills 43-18 in previously unreported action.

Kaitlyn Daniels and Jenna Wilson each scored 11 points as Rosspoint defeated Cawood 40-28 in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Thursday.
Taylor Clem and Michele Stewart each scored 14 for Cawood.
Cawood clinched the top seed in the fifth- and sixth-grade county tournament with a 52-27 win over Rosspoint. Cheyanne Rhymer scored 35 points and Maddi Middleton added 13 for the Lady Comets.
