Lady Dragons break four-game losing streak

Harlan outscored visiting Barbourville 25-5 in the second quarter on Thursday as the Lady Dragons snapped a four-game losing streak to claim a 65-35 win on Senior Night.
Angel Wynn, Alli Thompson and Kaylee Leslie were honored before the game.
“It’s hard to describe them. I’ve had them all four years. My first four-year seniors,” said Harlan coach Tiffany Hamm. “Just super close to them. They take care of a lot of things for me, but they’re going to be super successful just because they do things the right way.”
Leslie has missed most the season due to medical issues, according to Hamm.
But it was the younger duo of freshman Aymanni Wynn and eighth-grader Kylie Noe who combined for 38 points and 19 rebounds for Harlan. Aymanni Wynn fired in 21 points and had nine rebounds while Noe poured in 17 points and had a game-high 10 boards.
The Lady Dragons shot 48 percent (27 of 56) from the field. The Lady Tigers hit 14 of 35 from the field for 40 percent.
Harlan held a huge advantage on the boards, outrebounding Barbourville 36-13.
“I thought in the first half we dominated the boards,” said Hamm. “We went with a bigger lineup that we played with over the past weekend. That was a huge positive.”
Abbi Fields scored four points and Aymanni Wynn nailed a 3-pointer as the Lady Dragons took a 9-4 lead after four minutes. Aymanni Wynn scored seven points during a 9-0 run.
Faith Hoskins nailed a 3-pointer and Fields and Emma Owens each had a basket as Harlan led 23-10 after one quarter.
Thompson started a 12-0 run as the Lady Dragons pushed their lead to 39-13 with 2:12 left in the first half. During the 12-0 run, Noe and Aymanni Wynn had four points apiece.
Harlan led 48-15 at halftime. The Lady Dragons held a 22-4 advantage on the boards in the first half.
Angel Wynn’s basket with 16 seconds into the third period started a running clock.
Noe had two baskets in the quarter as the Lady Dragons led 55-24 entering the final quarter.
Angel Wynn hit a 3-pointer and Noe scored three points in the final period as Harlan cruised to the victory.
Fields finished the night with eight points for Harlan. Owens added six points and six assists.
Junior forward Aimee Woolum hit six of 10 shots from the field to lead Barbourville with 15 points. Lauren Smith scored eight. The Lady Tigers only dressed eight players for the game.
Barbourville had 17 turnovers compared to nine for the Lady Dragons.
“We were able to get out and run, and we’re a lot better team when we can do that,” added Hamm.
Harlan (6-13) returns to action tonight playing host to Lynn Camp (9-14). The Lady Dragons will host Letcher Central on Monday and close the regular season Tuesday in the first game of the girls/boys doubleheader at Red Bird.
Barbourville (3-15) entertains Red Bird (5-14) tonight, travels to Middlesboro on Thursday and plays host to the Lady Cardinals on March 12.

The Lady Dragons fell at Madison Central 35-30 on Saturday.
Noe powered Harlan with 16 points. She had 11 rebounds and four blocks. Owens scored nine points and three steals. Aymanni Wynn had three points and grabbed 14 boards. Abbi Fields added two points
The Lady Indians are coached by former James A. Cawood graduate Brad Lovely.
Harlan also lost to Corbin on the road last week, 77-38.
Kallie Housley powered the Lady Hounds with 20 points. Shelby Stewart scored 12 points and had eight rebounds.
Noe paced the Lady Dragons with 18 points. Aymanni Wynn scored seven. Abbi Fields followed with four. Owens, Angel Wynn and Faith Hoskins each had three points.
