Bears knock off host school to win two of three at tourney

Harlan County bounced back from a first-round loss to win two of three at the Hilton Head Island Seahawk Holiday Classic, capped by a 66-57 win Sunday over Hilton Head, S.C.
Senior guard Maddox Huff was one of four Bears in double figures with 26 points. Jaycee Carter added 14, followed by Brody Napier and Trent Cole with 11 each.
T. Wright scored 23 and R. Stewart added 14 to lead Hilton Head.
Harlan County returns to action Friday in the Ashland Invitational with a first-round game against Lloyd Memorial.

Bears use 17-0 run to take control in win over South Carolina opponent

Down four late in the third quarter, Harlan County reeled off 17 unanswered points to take control on the way to a 62-50 win Saturday over Sumter, S.C., in the consolation bracket of the Hilton Head Island Seahawk Holiday Classic.
Maddox Huff and Brennan Blevins each hit 3-pointers to close the third quarter as the Bears took a 45-43 lead. Huff and Brody Napier each had baskets to start the fourth quarter, and Jaycee Carter hit a 3 as the Bears scored the first 11 points of the period to put the game away.
Huff finished with 25 points to lead the 6-2 Bears. Carter added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Napier chipped in with 11. Trent Cole tossed in nine. Blevins scored seven as he made his second straight start with junior guar Reggie Cottrell sidelined for the week due to an ankle injury suffered last week in the WYMT Mountain Classic.
B.J. Brown scored 18 and Eli Britt added 10 for Sumter.
Harlan County will play in the fifth-place game on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Huff’s 35 not enough as Bears fall to Florida opponent at Hilton Head tourney

A 35-point game from senior guard Maddox Huff wasn’t quite enough to help Harlan County advance in the first round of the Seahawk Holiday Classic on Friday in Hilton Head, S.C., against a talented opponent from Florida.
Harlan County fell behind 15-8 after one quarter and spent the rest of the day playing catch up before falling 71-60 to Boyd Anderson High School.
Senior center Jaycee Carter added 10 points and nine rebounds for the 5-2 Black Bears.
Harlan County played without junior guard Reggie Cottrell, who suffered an ankle injury last week in the WYMT Mountain Classic.
The Black Bears will play the loser of the Mount Lebanon, Penn., vs Sumter, S.C., game on Saturday at noon.
