Incumbent Donna Hoskins will be the Democratic party candidate for Harlan County Clerk in the general election in November.

Hoskins pulled 2,091 votes, beating challengers Greg Shanks with 507 votes and Russell Huff with 228 votes.

Hoskins has worked in the Harlan County Clerk’s Office for decades, serving both as deputy clerk under Wanda Clem and then as Harlan County Clerk following Clem’s death.

“I want to thank all my election officers — after not having an election for 18 months, it went very smoothly,” Hoskins said. “I also want to thank all the people who voted for me.”

John Clem Jr. walked away with the Republican nomination for Harlan County Clerk with 832 votes, beating Shawn Brent Miller who pulled 790 votes.

The primary race for Harlan County Judge-Executive saw Darla Carter Heflin beating out Clair Stines, with Heflin receiving 915 votes to Stines’ 537 votes.

In other election activity:

• Tony Noe won the Democrat Party’s nomination for District 1 Constable with 272 votes, defeating Bobby “Hot Rod” Grubbs who received 264 votes;

• Charles R. Bailey took the Republican nomination for District 4 Constable with 177 votes, beating Chris Hickey who pulled 51 votes. James Steven Ray won the Democratic nomination with 276 votes over John Helton’s 87;

• Robert Haywood is the Democratic nominee for District 5 Constable with 639 votes, beating Frank Pennington Sr.’s 151 votes;

• Harold “Hal” Rogers is the Republican choice for U.S. Representative for the 5th Congressional District, taking 1,418 votes to Gerardo Serrano’s 284. The Democratic nominee is Kenneth Stepp, receiving 1,163 votes to beat Scott Sykes’ 795.
