Tri-City girls place third in District 4

After opening District 4 Tournament (ages 11-12) play with a pair of wins, the Tri-City All-Stars fell short of a trip to the state tournament with losses in their next two games.

Tri-City fell 16-1 to Hazard/Perry in the winners’ bracket finals, falling to the consolation bracket in the process. Josalynn Lee, Sydney Lewis and Lesleigh Brown had hits for Tri-City.

North Laurel eliminated Tri-City with a 14-0 win in the finals of the consolation bracket. Cheyann Steele had the only hit for the Tri-City All-Stars.

Brittleigh Estep pitched both games for Tri-City.

Tri-City, which finished third overall, opened the tournament with a 10-9 win over Knox County and then claimed a 20-11 win over Jackson County.

Hazard/Perry won the tournament with a victory over North Laurel.

The District 4 Tournament (boys ages 9-10) will open Saturday at Huff Park in Harlan with the four district winners playing. Hazard/Perry, the Area 4 champion, will play the Area 1 champion on Saturday at 5 p.m. North Laurel, the Area 2 champion, will play Knox County, the Area 3 champion, at 7 p.m.

Middlesboro, the Area 3 runner-up, will play the Area 1 runner-up on Sunday at 2 p.m. Harlan, the Area 4 runner-up, will play Jackson County, the Area 2 runner-up, at 4 p.m.

The two losers from Saturday will play the two winners from Sunday on Monday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
