Lynn Camp stays perfect with rout of HHS

For the first time in school history, the Lynn Camp football team has started the season with eight consecutive wins, including Friday’s 48-13 district victory at Harlan.
The Wildcats will play host to Williamsburg on Friday with the District 7 championship of Class A on the line.
Lynn Camp scored on its first possession with a 13-play, 73-yard drive. Senior running back Dalton Cook, who leads the state in rushing, went in the from 4 with 5:32 left in the first quarter.
Harlan answered with a five-play, 71-yard drive that including two runs by Kilian Ledford for 56 yards. The drive was capped by a John Brock 6-yard touchdown run at the 3:50 mark. Ledford’s kick gave Harlan a 7-6 lead..
The Wildcats fought back. Domanick Cook took the kickoff and raced 59 yards to the Harlan 26. Two plays later, Lynn Camp senior quarterback Eric Mitchell scored on a 17-yard keeper. Cook added the two-point conversion as the Wildcats led 14-7.
The Dragons turned the ball over on downs and Lynn Camp used a six-play, 59-yard drive to score. Mitchell connected with Chase Brown for a 27-yard touchdown pass at the 10:13 mark of the second quarter. Mitchell’s pass to Cameron Gilbert added the two-point conversion.
Lynn Camp took a 22-7 lead into the half.
In the second quarter, Harlan’s Braydon Shanks was removed from the game with a knee injury. The lineman/linebacker never returned.
The Wildcats blew the game open in the third quarter with three touchdowns.
Mitchell found Brown for an 18-yard TD pass early in the period. Tommy Partin’s kick was good.
The second score came at the 7:35 mark as Domanick Cook caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Mitchell to make it 35-7.
Mitchell scored on a 6-yard keeper with 3:22 left in the third quarter.
Lynn Camp’s final touchdown of the night came as Mitchell went in from the 4 midway through the final period.
Ledford added an 8-yard TD run with 28 seconds remaining to close the scoring.
Cook powered the Wildcats with 199 yards on 27 carries. Brown and Tracy Fee added 69 and 63 yards, respectively.
Ledford led the Green Dragons with 110 yards on 14 carries.
Harlan (0-2 district, 3-5 overall) plays host to Pineville on Friday in the annual Battle of 119. The winner will take third place in the district.
