A Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 20 at Harlan United Methodist Church (201 E. Mound Street, Harlan). This service, sponsored by several local churches, will celebrate the blessings we enjoy as a nation through music, scripture and short meditations. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The annual Festival of the Mountain Masters will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 23 and 24 at the Village Center Mall. At the festival you will find entertainment, friends, and lots of crafts that range from chair caning, candle making, homemade soaps, jewelry making, homemade cutting boards, wooden signs, hand sewn clothing, homemade candy, handmade brooms, and much more.

Harlan County Christian School will present their annual Christmas Light Display, Harlan County Celebrates Christmas, at the Shriners Fairgrounds in Putney for the 2018 Christmas season. The display will be open to the public from 6-9:30 p.m. and can be viewed every Thursday, Friday and Saturday beginning Nov. 23. The display will also be open Dec. 19 (Wednesday). Sip on hot chocolate and munch on a candy cane while driving around the light display as many times as you like. Christmas music may be streamed through an FM channel on your car radio. The display is free to the public; however, donations to the Harlan County Christian School are greatly appreciated. The Shriner train will run (excluding Nov. 30 and Dec. 1) every Friday and Saturday, weather permitting. Turkey Trot Family 5K Run/Walk by the Harlan Boys Choir on Nov. 24. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the event at 10:30 a.m. — begins and ends at the Harlan Center parking lot. All proceeds benefit the Harlan Boys Choir — a fundraiser for a trip to Washington, D.C. Entry fee is $25 pr runner pre-register by Nov. 23; $30 day of race. Registration forms are available at the Harlan Center, PT Pros and the Harlan Boys & Girls Club.

The Christmas Tree Lighting in Cumberland will be held Nov. 26. There will be carriage rides, entertainment, and Santa Claus and his elves. This event is free and will take place at the gazebo in Cumberland. For more information, call Cumberland Main Street at 606-589-5812.

The LMU Women of Service Christmas Festival and Tree Lighting will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 29 held on the concourse of Tex Turner arena and will include lots of vendors, food and family fun. The Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra will be performing a concert in the arena at 7 p.m. Admission to the concert is free with the donation of a food, hygiene, children’s clothing or toy item for Mission of Hope. After the concert, the annual tree lighting will be held outside near the arena.

The Tri-City Christmas Parade will be held Nov. 30. “Songs of Christmas” is this year’s theme. This event will feature floats, music, Santa Claus and his elves. For more information, call the Cumberland Tourism Commission at 606-589-5812.
