Cards pull away in second half to defeat HCHS

Harlan County suffered its second loss in as many Saturday at South Laurel as the host Cardinals pulled away in the second half for a 64-42 win in the Raymond Reed Classic.

The Bears led by two after one quarter and trailed by only two at halftime before South outscored them 19-13 in the third quarter and 18-14 in the fourth period.

Senior guard J.J. Ramey, the 13th Region’s top-rated player, led the 14-1 Cardinals with 25 points. Junior guard Matthew Cromer added 17 points.

Junior guard Taylor Spurlock led the 11-5 Bears with 20 points Alex Pace and Tyler Cole chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Harlan County returns to action Thursday at Lee, Va.
